When are Library fines applied?

As a user of the EUI Library, you are part of a community that includes visiting and external researchers. Fines are applied to ensure responsible use of resources and maintain access for all users.

Overdue items

  • It is your responsibility to manage loans, renew or return items on time. Check your My Library Account for current loans and any outstanding fines.
  • Fines apply to all users, without exception, for:
    • Overdue books
    • Interlibrary Loans (ILLs)
    • Locker keys
    • Other library materials
  • Access to e-resources will be temporarily suspended if fines exceed €50. Access is restored once payment is made and proof is provided.

Renewals:

  • Items overdue by less than 30 days (without a recall) may be renewed.
  • Items overdue by more than 30 days cannot be renewed.

How fines are calculated

  • Fines are calculated automatically based on days overdue and type of material.
  • Days when the EUI is closed are not counted.
