Does the Library accept book donations?

Gifts or donations relevant to EUI research are assessed by Information Specialists and may be added to the collections, exchanged, or given away.

Gifts deemed irrelevant to EUI teaching and research are placed at the Library entrance for users to take freely.

The Library does not accept:

  • duplicates, unless there is heavy course demand
  • versions of books already available in electronic version, or for which there is a more recent edition in the collection
  • individual or partial runs of journals

Large book donations

Professors, or any EUI member who is leaving the EUI and wishes to donate their books are asked to contact the Library in advance to make the necessary arrangements.

Prospective donors should contact the Library in advance and provide a description of the material they intend to donate, preferably with a list of titles. In the absence of such documentation, the Library may require on-site evaluation of the collection by Library staff. Information Specialists evaluate the quality and relevance of works offered.
